About Naomi

My life moves between the studio and home.

I paint, draw, and sketch — mostly flowers, quiet forms, and small studies that help me slow down and pay attention. Watercolor and graphite are where I feel most at ease.

Outside of painting, I love reading, writing reflections, and noticing the details of everyday life. Motherhood shapes my pace and perspective more than anything else.

Life shifted unexpectedly for a while, and I had more time than I was used to. I began painting again during that season.

I share what I’m creating, what I’m thinking about, and the small things that feel worth holding onto.

Her Story, My Story

My mother grew up in what were called “Moon Villages” (Dal-dongne) — hillside neighborhoods built from what families could find, where meals were simple and resilience was necessary.

She came to America at nineteen with very little, carrying faith, grit, and a quiet determination to build something steadier.

Her story is part of mine. It shapes the way I move through the world, the way I notice small things, and the way I return to creating — slowly, thoughtfully.

A Tribute to My Mother

HurStories is named after my mother, whose maiden name is Hur.

It started simply — during storytime with my children, when I would read with exaggerated voices and let imagination take over. Those small, playful moments slowly grew into something more.

Through my mother’s life, I began to understand how stories shape the way we see ourselves and the world around us. The ones we inherit, the ones we repeat, and the ones we choose to tell all matter.

Naming this space after her felt right — a quiet way to honor what has carried across generations, and a reminder to help my own children see their lives as stories still unfolding.
